Planning your next career move without rushing it

Ascendant Talent · October 2026

Begin by describing what is not working and what you want more of, in specific terms. “More meaningful work” becomes clearer when you name the tasks, the people and the problems you have in mind.

Next, list two or three realistic directions, including staying where you are with changes. For each, write down what you would need to learn, what you would give up and what evidence you already have that it could suit you.

Talk to people who do the work, and test the idea in small ways before committing: a short project, a course, a conversation about what the role really demands.

Set a review date. Deciding is easier when you know when you will look at the question again.

General guidance only. It is not advice tailored to your situation and does not guarantee any outcome.
